Investment-grade statement piece, showcasing a custom, newly executed fine art finish from Turtle and Crane Atelier in Mobile, Alabama. This vintage mid-20th-century frame has been beautifully reimagined with a masterful, multi-layered bespoke antiquing process true to the Swedish Gustavian tradition.
The custom color palette features a sophisticated blend of Chambray Blue details beautifully contrasted against a crisp Linen White field and architectural borders. The finish is meticulously detailed with intentional hand-distressing along the raised turnings, fluted columns, and carved moldings.
Most notably, the painted surfaces have been delicately burnished back along the architectural edges, revealing rich glints of the underlying gold leaf gilding to evoke the layered luxury of a palace antique.
To replicate the storied character of a treasured heirloom, the surface is carefully detailed with exquisite, period-correct fly speckling — a delicate misting technique simulating centuries of natural soot, dust, and authentic aged patina.
The entire frame is completed with a smoky charcoal glaze that sinks deep into the crevices, creating dramatic shadow lines that ground the soft, chalky color tones and amplify the grand architectural depth of the woodwork.
The architecture of this grand vertical wall mirror is executed in a commanding Trumeau style, channeling the restrained, straight-line neoclassical geometry associated with 18th-century Swedish court design. Built with a substantial and durable composite frame, the design allows for razor-sharp, flawless crispness in the deep reliefs.
The structure is crowned with a stately, prominent triangular pediment top over an impeccably detailed egg-and-dart and dentil molding frieze panel. The vertical side borders feature exceptional heavy fluted columns with architectural block bases and capitals, a design vocabulary rooted in the Gustavian period’s Stockholm court furniture tradition.
