This is an original oil on canvas painting by well-known Wisconsin-based artist Charles Dix. Based on his own description of his bodies of work, this painting appears to fit in his 1960s-70s phase when he focused on depicting "vast galactic upheavals" and "sun-baked planetary landscapes" (quoted from his own artist statement).
He was primarily a self-taught artist though he attended Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and Layton Art School (which closed in 1974). Signed top left corner and dated 1970. The painting is primarily made up of oranges, black, white, and gray. Condition: The painting appears to be in excellent original condition with no damage.
The fabric liner and frame are secure but do show signs of age including dings, scratches, and some discoloration. The backing paper is wrinkled. Framed: 13" h x 10" w Sight: 8.25" h x 5.25" w
