Pip is not like the other toys in Miss Mae's little shop. One ear is spotted. The other is purple. His feet do not match, his eyes sit unevenly, and a crooked seam runs down the middle of his face. While the other toys seem polished and perfect, Pip cannot stop noticing all the ways he stands out.
When Buttonberry announces its annual Perfect Toy Parade, Pip secretly dreams of joining. But the closer the parade gets, the more he worries that everyone will stare at his patches, loose threads, and uneven steps. Convinced that he must change before he can belong, Pip begins trying to hide the very parts that make him special.
With help from Tilly, a wooden bird with uneven wings, and the newly formed Club of Unmatched Things, Pip starts to understand that differences are not mistakes. Every patch carries a memory. Every stitch tells a story. And sometimes the parts we wish we could hide are the very parts that help someone else feel less alone.
Then Pip meets Wren, a little girl learning to feel brave about a scar of her own. Together, they discover that courage does not mean never feeling afraid, healing does not always happen in a straight line, and belonging should never require anyone to become someone else.
Perfectly, Imperfect is a warm and uplifting children's chapter book about self-acceptance, friendship, visible differences, scars, mistakes, and the quiet courage it takes to be seen. Perfect for readers ages 6–9, this gentle story reminds children that they do not have to be flawless to be worthy of kindness, belonging, and love.
Being you is more than enough.
