Normcore Step-Down Filter Basket Kit Description The Normcore Step-Down Filter Basket Kit is a precision-engineered conversion system designed to reduce your brew diameter and intentionally reshape espresso extraction behaviour.
By stepping down to a smaller basket format, it increases puck depth and alters resistance, giving you structured control over flow dynamics, pressure response and texture development. Available in 58mm → 49mm, 57.5mm → 49mm and 54mm → 45.5mm configurations, each kit is offered in either Reduced Flow (0.18mm, 2475 holes) or Standard Flow (0.28mm, 786 holes).
Reduced Flow increases resistance for slower extraction and heavier body, while Standard Flow supports faster flow and greater clarity when paired with finer grind adjustments. Engineered for deliberate dial-in refinement, this system allows controlled experimentation with grind size, dose depth and saturation behaviour without altering your machine setup.
It creates a repeatable extraction platform that rewards precision, making it ideal for testing roast profiles and refining espresso structure with measurable intent.
Normcore Step-Down Filter Basket Kit Features Reduced Brew Diameter System – Converts your existing portafilter to a smaller extraction surface, increasing puck depth and modifying resistance for controlled flow behaviour.
Low-Flow Configuration – Higher resistance supports coarser grind settings and slower extraction, producing thicker body and heavier texture for medium to dark roasts and alternative brewing styles.
Standard-Flow Configuration – Lower resistance promotes faster flow and greater clarity, requiring finer grind adjustments for light roasts and traditional espresso profiles. Precision Laser-Cut Hole Pattern – Uniform perforation design ensures even water distribution and stable puck saturation across the reduced diameter.
Integrated Workflow Accessories – Includes matched dosing funnel, 0.8mm puck screen and filter papers to maintain surface control and con
