This extraordinary, exhibition-scale 26.5-inch crystal centerpiece bowl is a definitive mid-century modern masterwork from the renowned Daum glassworks in Nancy, France. Produced during the 1950s, this iconic "Swallowtail" (or Freeform) model features a dramatic, sweeping silhouette hand-sculpted from heavy, brilliant clear crystal.
A Collector's Perspective: While officially designated as the "Swallowtail" model by Daum, the organic, hand-sculpted wave shape possesses a fluid, majestic quality closely resembling a manta ray in motion.
It was this striking, sculptural "manta wave" aesthetic that originally sparked a lifelong passion for Daum art glass, making this particular piece a deeply cherished part of a private collection.
Rarity & Scale: While standard production models typically range from 14 to 18 inches, this monumental 26.5-inch version represents the largest and rarest scale produced by Daum during this era.
At over two feet long and weighing a substantial 12.8 lbs, its massive proportions, fluid lines, and exceptional light refraction make it a commanding focal point for luxury dining tables, sideboards, or high-end minimalist interior spaces. Condition: Pristine vintage condition, meticulously cared for over decades.
The crystal remains remarkably clear and bright with zero chips, cracks, flea bites, or notable surface scratches on the body. Consistent with age and careful use over its 75-year history, a few light, superficial table scratches are present strictly on the underside of the base.
Markings: The authentic, hand-etched "Daum France" signature is clearly visible on the lower side of the base. Dimensions: Width: 26.5 in. Depth: 6.0 in. Height: 9.0 in. Weight: 12.8 lbs
