This book is a collection of eleven Indigenous stories of fables, folklore and fantasy. It starts with exploring what might have happened if one vital change was made in the Wounded Knee Massacre in a story titled, "Ghost Dance." It examines the horrors of the MMIW epidemic in "Red Dress" and of the hidden tragedies of residential schools in "Shh".
Legends come alive in "Trespassers" and new legends are told in "Of Crows". "Wild Heart" questions one organs' capability for memory and "Savages" questions what it means to have mercy.
There is an uplifting tale of what a tree might wish for in "Wish of a Tree" and a haunting story of revenge in "First Falling Thunder." "Iyóko" follows a young girl with the power to call upon spirits, both good and bad. In the end there is a creation story of the origins of dreams titled "Dreams Caretaker".
