Joseph C. Lincoln built a whole beloved career out of Cape Cod, and Galusha Bangs is his finest creation: an archaeologist of vast learning and not one grain of practical sense, who takes a room in a seaside boarding house to mend his health and instead finds himself defending his landlady's savings from a scheming spiritualist and a ruinous investment.
